Analysis Of A Rock Video 1

Cinematography:

This is a classic rock song. The main thing that makes it stand out is the recording in black and white. It gives it a rock type affect and dark mood. There clothes and guitars and the whole mise en scene is a typical rock feeling. The shots are very snappy, they often show a lead singer and then the shot will change to them in a group. Close ups, mid shots and long shots were all used. In my opinion i did get slight viewer fatigue as they were located on stage and weren't doing much however people who like this genre of music were probably different. It might be because i don't like this type of genre personally.

Mise-En-Scene:

The Mise en scene within this video is a very stereotypical old rock music video. The video is not an all out music video. it is of them performing on stage. The black and white background gives a real emphasis on the rock genre on a whole. Also, their props such as clothes and guitars also convey their genre without listening to any of their music. As we have seen, this video was established in 1986 therefore it is very old. If a new rock video was made today, it would have a lot of the same conventions however the black and white may not be there, also, it may not be located on a stage.

Editing:

The editing within the video was very simplistic. It almost followed the artists around the video whilst they were performing. We see a transition however half way through the video. it goes from black and white to color. The first half of the video i did find boring however when the color came in it became a bit more to life.

Sound:

This is a typical rock sounding song. Conventions we would associate with rock are used such as guitars and drums. However, if i listened to the lyrics i would picture a whole different video. However, as they are a well known group they can afford to take risks.
